New and improved design of SKF bearings to improve wind turbine reliability

SKFTo study the performance of the wind turbine drivetrain under various operating conditions, this research work is currently being carried out on the existing GE1.5 MW generator at the NREL National Wind Energy Technology Center in Colorado, and provides insight into the causes of wind turbine bearings Possible cause of failure.

SKF will provide a variety of components and systems for the project, including a newly developed spherical roller bearing 240/600 BC seals optimized for wind turbines, condition monitoring hardware and software, and automatic lubrication systems .

SKF's main purpose is to study the failure modes of gearboxes and spindle bearings, leading to the development of new and improved designs to increase reliability.
